Scamp the dog

The major talking point this week in Wirral has been about Scamp the dog.

Earlier this week in the Wirral News and The Echo I told the story of a brokenhearted couple who returned from holiday to find their pet of five years had been re-homed and would "under no circumstances" be returned to them.

Shane and Janet de Lacy left the Lhasa Apso in the care of their daughter Sian, 35, who lives in Wallasey, when they travelled to Sicily for two weeks.

But while they were away their dog went missing and despite being reported missing, was found by Wirral Council's kennel's service, re-named Sweetie and re-homed with a family who refused to return the dog.

Obviously everybody was shocked by this and Scamp's family were distraught.

National papers got onto the story straight away and my phone hasn't stopped ringing.

Then yesterday, I found out that the new owners of the dog said they would return her.

So I went to the pound and met Scamp as she was being reunited with Sian, who will be taking her back to her parents who live in Monmouth, South Wales, this weekend.

So a happy ending for the de Lacy family and proof that pets are very important to people in Wirral.
